Mistakes in popular recordings

Today’s standard is much higher when it comes to mistakes. Audioshine and other recording studios have tools to “fix” mistakes and make edits to a much higher precision. Audioshine Engineer Carl Moore uses industry standard Pro-Tools software fro tracking, editing, and mixing audio. With this tool he can switch between takes on just one instrument using the best of each take- all transparent to the listener.
Back in the 60′s audio editing was limited. On the wrong day, doing take after take leads to a new mistake in a different place in the song. Here are some memorable mistakes:
Beatles- Let It Be- near the lyric “mother Mary comes to me” is a wrong piano chord. It was fixed on some releases (Let It Be Naked?) or either it was a different take.
Tommy James & The Shondels- Mony Mony- after the bridge there is a build up “yeah, yeah, yeah” and then it cuts to the next chord change as if the master tape was cut and spliced at that point – not one track but all of them. A top classic recording with a big ole glitch! No way would any respectable engineer put that out today.
Moma’s and the Papas, “I Saw Her Again Last Night” sounds like they came in with the vocal too early, stopped and then came in as they were supposed to. For what ever reason, I guess they decided to leave it in.
Know of some other classic recording blunders? email me.
